1308 Supports Navy Days / Fleet Week 2010
1308 Productions was recruited to volunteer to help welcome and honor the Chief of Naval Operations (CNO), Member of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Admiral Gary Roughead, as part of Navy Days / Fleet Week 2010 at Port Everglades. 1308 proudly and enthusiastically joined the effort to salute, thank, and entertain the CNO and all of our men and women in uniform serving on the Iwo-Jima and the fleet that came into port.
On April 30, 2010 the event was held on the hangar deck of the tremendous USS Iwo Jima, with over 1,500 VIPs, high ranking military officers, and leaders of the South Florida business and civic community. Providing music, entertainment, and event support, 1308 helped to produce an event that will long be remembered. 1308 presented Atlantic Records Artist Carole Taran Lee to sing the National Anthem, the MBSHS Drum Corps under the direction of Capt. Kevin Simon (Civil Air Patrol), and the MBSHS Guitar Ensemble under the direction of Doug Burris.
The CNO, Admiral Roughead, gave an inspiring speech and the theme of the entire program was the opportunity to welcome and thank America’s military personnel for their service and sacrifice. Included in the audience were veterans of the battle for Iwo Jima in World War II and a member of the original Tuskeegee Airmen. Fleet Week, under the leadership of Chairman Joe Millsaps, was a great success and the sailors, marines and members of other services are already looking forward to visiting South Florida once again in the future. Haiti Music Education Support Project
The devastation caused by the earthquake in Haiti is overwhelming. Everyone shares the shock of the extent of what has happened and the desire to be able to help in some way. 1308 is bringing people together to be of service to those in need. We are helping to link and connect individuals and organizations who have stepped forward to get things done. We are also continuing our music education support program and we want to salute everyone involved in reaching out to foster disaster relief, recovery, and the future of Haiti. To get involved visit www.haitiaccountability.org - your help is essential and truly appreciated.
Efforts will continue, as part of long range plans and as a means of helping to serve young people and help move them forward to a bright future, to help provide musical instruments to music education programs in Haiti. Its about kids reaching out to kids – through and about a mutual love of music. YES MUSIC REALLY CAN MAKE A TRULY POSITIVE DIFFERENCE FOR KIDS. We seek to collect and deliver instruments, and everyone is welcome to participate. If you have any instruments of any kind to provide, new or used in good working condition, please contact 1308 today! The effort has been recognized and reported on by Voice of America radio and earned international notice, and with YOUR help we can get instruments into the hands of eager aspiring musicians!
